Sydney Smith’s Rule for Usefulness

posted in: Illustrations | 0

Sydney Smith was a well-known and useful minister in the Church of England. One day, a member of his congregation asked him how he could make himself useful. “My friend,” said Mr. Smith, “I will give you this short rule for usefulness. Try to make one person happy every day; and then, at the end of ten years, you will have the pleasure of thinking that you have been useful to 3,650 people.”
